Soccer greats arrive in Sandton Central
Soccer icons such as Pelé, Beckham and Ronaldinho have taken a permanent position on the streets of Sandton Central. Forming part of the Sandton Central Management District's (SCMD) outdoor Exhibition Programme, the stars received a warm welcome earlier this week. The exhibition, entitled the OTHERside, showcases 56 World Cup images and takes viewers on a rollercoaster ride of emotions – anguish, elation, contentment and heartbreak.
Some photos date back a few centuries, while others are very recent. A favourite of mine is where Santos and Perle share a hug after Brazil won the World Cup final in 1958, as well as the fascinating series of female soccer players around the globe. With the assistance of Picturenet Africa, the OTHERside consists of 56 carefully selected images and will delight and entertain visitors, residents and tourists until 14 July.
To view the full exhibition, take a walk along Burgher's Walk (near FTV café), corner Gwen and Fredman (on grass pavement outside New Cafe) and the Maude Street stage (between the Balalaika Hotel and Netcare Building).
