I Have Fallen - An Exhibition By Nadine Hutton
In July 2009, The Sandton Central Management District showcased Nadine Hutton's thought provoking and controversial work entitled "I Have Fallen".
This ironic, unexpectedly wry, even humorous and intimate portrait of a community of poor white people was not meant to exploit and shock rather, according to Hutton the exhibition purposefully avoided the sensationalist pitfalls associated with this sensitive subject matter.
"These are real people with real problems, but what struck me most was their phenomenal inner strength. I myself come from a similar background, making these photographs very personal and close to my heart". Art is intended to be thought-provoking, and while realising that the exhibition is controversial, it depicts reality."
Mother Teresa said, "We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty."
