Andrew Tshabangu on the streets of Sandton
The exhibition showcased thought-provoking photographs of Tshabangu's preoccupation with Mali, part of an ongoing project engaging him with Africa. The exhibition is a development of work which first surfaced last year, focusing on Joburg, with a look at other urban African spaces that have a relationship with our city.
Born in 1966 in Soweto, Tshabangu studied at the Alexandra Community art centre and there realised his love for still pictures. Since then, his work has been included in exhibitions all over the globe, including the United Kingdom, United States of America, Germany and Italy. As a photographer, he is renowned for smoky, atmospheric lighting that lends a mystical element to his images.
