The district was host to several exciting events, particularly leading up to and during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Sandton Central was the central contact point of providing information in relation to fan parks, road closures, transportation, relevant bylaws etc.

The opening of the 1st phase of the Gautrain rapid rail system on the 8th of June 2010 proved to be successful and succeeded the expectations of the people of Gauteng. Notwithstanding the fact that the Gautrain has created a portal to Sandton Central on a national and international level and is likely to remain the primary point for Airport arrivals and departures, and play a key role in PTA & JHB transfers."
